According to statistics, 1 in 4 children don’t know when they will have the privilege to have their next meal. Nutritious food is essential for children in terms of their growth and development needs therefore, imagining the situation of the underprivileged children who are deprived from it is heartbreaking. At JAAGO Foundation, we believe that children need to be fed properly along with gaining proper education. Our students in the 11 schools all over Bangladesh not only receive quality education, but also nutritious meals every day for their physical and mental well being.
In retrospect to the current situation of the world as a whole due to the effects of the Coronavirus or Covid-19, the marginalized communities are being affected the most. In a country like Bangladesh where most families depend on day to day income and live under the poverty line , it has become difficult for the lower income families to afford a meal a day. For the past three months, everything has been put to a halt. After the lockdown was initiated at the end of March, educational institutions have been closed down until further notice. This means that the students who would depend on the school’s food package for a healthy meal a day are now denied from it as a consequence of schools being shut down.
Everyone is in a place where the future seems unclear and most are hitting rock bottom. To combat the situation and give hope to the children in such times of despair, JAAGO Foundation provided relief packages to the families of the students which contained basic food necessities such as- rice, flour, pulse, potato, oil, salt, soap etc., so that the children and families themselves can survive during this catastrophic situation. We have tried to ensure nutrition in all our packages and started distributing to our school students and their families first. Once we ensured all our children have food on their plates, we tried to expand our relief program by giving packages to other needy families in the slum area.
Despite the coronavirus outbreak and the risk factors, JAAGO Foundation has been providing the care packages while still maintaining all the safety precautions. Our volunteers are working day and night in the purpose of packing and distributing relief packages to our students and other families from the low income group to bring peace and hope in these households.
We are extremely grateful to all our supporters who have given these households a ray of hope. With the hope for a better tomorrow, JAAGO Foundation aims to provide the families of the children with such packages as long as they can suffice and the situation gets better. Keep supporting us so that we can do something better for the community together!
