Dear friend,
In a world where hunger and malnutrition still plague so many, El Shaddai and Action Against Hunger have together made a difference. With a passion to break the cycle of suffering and deliver sustainable nutrition outcomes, we have embarked on a journey of hope and possibility through Manna “Meals on Wheels” in North & South Goa. This collaboration is a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s capacity for kindness and empathy and a beautiful example of what we can achieve when we work together for a cause greater than ourselves.
Safe Motherhood Day is a critical moment to recognize the importance of supporting the health and well-being of mothers and their children. At Action Against Hunger, we understand the devastating impact that malnutrition can have on mothers and infants, especially the last-mile populations. We believe every mother has the right to access quality healthcare, nutrition, and support during pregnancy and childbirth. Through our programs, we work to improve maternal and child health by providing essential services, including parental care and nutritional support.
We also work with communities to promote healthy behaviours and practices preventing malnutrition and illness, such as hand washing and sanitation. Investing in the health and well-being of mothers and their children can help build strong, resilient communities that can thrive even in the face of adversity.
Here is the story of a change; Sahil (name changed) was brought to our shelter when he was 3 years old and was found to be moderately malnourished. His parents are differently abled and couldn’t work, with his uncle undertaking the financial responsibilities of the house. Uncle’s youngest daughter too was found to be moderately malnourished. Our community mobilisers took proactive steps to help get them tested and referred to them to the nearest healthcare centres. The elder siblings too were at risk of malnutrition. Now every day we have Sahil (name changed) and their siblings visiting our shelter for meals. We have seen a great change in their health and a 30% increase in their weight. These children now look healthy and are able to concentrate on their studies with the balanced diet they receive at our shelters. As we continue our work, we remain deeply grateful to our supporters, partners, and staff who work tirelessly to achieve it. Together, we can create a world where hunger and malnutrition are no longer a reality, and every person has an equal opportunity to thrive.
