Nourishing the Hungry: Restoring hope

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Sponsor,

India is home to a quarter of all undernourished people worldwide, making the country a key focus for tackling hunger on a global scale. Hunger continues to plague India, affecting millions of lives and hindering the nation's progress. But if we all come together to feed the hungry then, we will be able to strive towards a future where no one goes to bed hungry. We all must work together to ensure a hunger-free India, fostering a nation where every citizen has access to adequate food and the opportunity to thrive.

At El Shaddai, we have made it our mission that no one should go to bed hungry. And with this in our hearts and mind, we have been able to start feeding programmes like “Mid-day Meals” and “Meals on Wheels”. Our staff distribute home-cooked nutritious hot meals to children at our Daycare shelters and community centres. Packed meals are also distributed in the slum areas to children and also to underprivileged people at various places in North and South Goa, like railway stations, Bus stands, temples etc. We have continued with our monthly distribution of grocery kits to underprivileged families. These families will have at least one less thing to worry about. We have realized that every meal shared is an opportunity to make a positive impact. Helping to feed those in need is a powerful way to give back to the community. So we request everyone to join us in the fight against hunger and be a part of the solution for your support that can provide nourishment and bring smiles to hungry faces."

Through our feeding programmes, we have reached out to many children and individuals. One such touching story is of the Banjara family. This family's journey became a compelling success story, driven by the transformative impact of the Midday Meal program at one of our shelters. Originating from Bihar, Mukesh (name changed) his wife and their three children found themselves facing the challenges of a new life. The nutritional landscape of this family underwent a profound transformation. Daily meals, provided through the Midday Meal program, became a source of essential nutrients, addressing the once-pressing issue of malnutrition. The health and physical well-being of the three children experienced a renaissance, setting the stage for a brighter, healthier future.

Education, too, became a cornerstone of their success story. The assurance of a nutritious meal fueled the children's motivation to attend school regularly. The once-lagging academic progress saw a remarkable upswing, as they began to catch up to their age-appropriate grade levels. As the days unfolded, this family's success story became a beacon of hope and resilience, resonating with the belief that every meal served was a stepping stone toward a brighter tomorrow. The once-humble hut in the Model Dumping Area became a symbol of triumph over adversity, echoing with the laughter of children, the sound of pages turning in textbooks, and the aroma of shared meals.

All this would not be possible without the help and support of generous and kind-hearted people like you. Thank you for being a part of the El Shaddai family for your continued support and love for the work we do and for joining us in our mission of putting an end to Hunger.

Sincerely

El Shaddai
