Dear Friend,
The most basic need for survival is food. For the satisfaction of our hunger, we undertake so many responsibilities, study rigorously and work for long hours, just to have the money to purchase food. This basic necessity becomes very challenging for those who have no proper education, which leads to unemployment, malnutrition and poverty. Despite the implementation of Government schemes that are aimed to provide food grains for the people under poverty line, the slum dwellers and other impoverished areas still go to sleep on an empty stomach.
El Shaddai strongly believes that sharing the goodness of God is what makes a difference in the lives of people in need. This goodness is put into practice through one of our initiatives which works towards providing a meal each day to the underprivileged children. Through our outreach efforts, we are able to help the children from slum areas who are in dire need of food. The parents struggle to provide for their children because they themselves have no proper employment and other important facilities. We also provide ration / groceries, for the ones in need. This helps them to at least be assured of availability of food for a few days.
Siya (name changed) and her sister live in a slum with their parents. They migrated to Goa from Karnataka in search of better work opportunities. Their father is a daily wage worker. Our outreach workers found the children during their visit to the slum, just when they were leaving to sell radium lights at the beach. They looked very malnourished. It was learnt that whenever their father had no work, the children would starve. They were encouraged to attend our slum school and avail of the benefits of our feeding program. Since then, they have been regularly attending our slum school and also having the opportunity to have a nutritious meal every day.
Our feeding, ration distribution and slum school programs are functional only because of the generosity of our sponsors. We, at El Shaddai, are more than grateful for your compassion. Through the support of all of you, we are able to bring our values and mission into reality.
Sincerely,
El Shaddai Family.
