What a great Harvest!

By Rose Bugusu | Director

Visiting one of the widows farm
Visiting one of the widows farm

These were the words from one of the beneficiaries during our home visitation.  “I have seen wonders” We provided farm inputs to 60 widows, they prepared their farms on time, and they planted early because they had everything they needed for planting. We had the best weather ever, we had good amount of rain and sunshine for the crops.

The Crops did very well, and the harvest was wonderful. These women could not hide their happiness when we visited them, they have enough for their children until the next harvest. We have been working with 30 widows for the last three years and this year we added another group of 30 widows.  This is not because we had more funds for the program but it is because of the efforts  we have put in to make sure that the first group of  widows are saving to able to buy their own farm inputs from their savings.  We are going to work with the second group of 30 widows, provide them with free farm inputs and after the three years they will be able to buy farm inputs from their savings.

Our goal is to help them become self sustainable, have enough food for their children.  This will help  reduce separation of children from their families.  One of the most common cause for  separation is lack of food and basic needs and it is the reason that we are  eccouraging to invest in food secuity especially for widows who have land.

This program has served more than 800 people this year! Looking at our program wall we don’t have enough supporters, and this is limiting our ability to reach out to more widows in the community, that is why we can only a new group of 30 widows after three years. It is our prayer that, as this year ends, you will consider sharing the good work you are doing with your friends, family, and other groups to help us expand our work.

On giving Tuesday, GlobalGiving will be matching funds with the new monthly and one-time supporters, any amount from $10 and above.  Kindly consider sharing our link with others to join us, walk alongside us as we work to share our love with the vulnerable.

We are because You are, you have done a wonderful job, you may not know how but you have provided a meal for the orphaned, vulnerable families for a whole year.  Congrats and God bless you!
