As a new planting season begins, we’re once again reminded of the power of opportunity. Our staple food, ugali a mixture of corn flour and water remains central to our diet. Because of this, corn is the crop of choice for nearly every household. When we have corn, we have food.
This season, we were able to provide farm inputs to over 90 widows, who have already planted their crops. During our first round of visits to these farmers, we were greatly encouraged. The crops are thriving, and the hard work invested by each woman is evident. We are hopeful for a bountiful harvest.
We’re especially proud to share that 30 widows have now graduated from the program. After receiving free farm inputs for three years, they are now independently purchasing what they need using their own savings. They’re no longer dependent and they are thriving. It brings us so much joy to see their dignity restored and their futures secure.
Our second group of widows has one year remaining in the program before they, too, begin purchasing their own inputs. This cycle not only ensures sustainability but also opens space for a new group of women to join. This year alone, over 900 people will indirectly benefit from the efforts of these women and the support of this program.
We envision a future where no widow goes without food, and no child is forced into an institution because of poverty. However, our program has reached a point of stagnation, and we are appealing to you our generous supporters for help.
Please share this story with friends and networks. Every voice matters. Together, we can bring more partners alongside us to stand with widows, ensuring they can feed their families and build stable, dignified lives.
Above all, thank you. Your generosity is changing lives and giving hope to many. We cannot fully express how deeply grateful we are for the difference you’re making in the world.
