Fighting Malnutrition with Spirulina: A Look Back at 2024 and Plans for 2025
At the Blue Atlas Project, we believe in sustainable solutions that make a real difference in people's lives. One of our most exciting projects over the past few years has been using spirulina—a nutrient-packed, superfood algae—to combat malnutrition. From the establishment of the Spirulina Development Institute to the case study with Masaka Regional Hospital and the partnerships in the Ministry of Health and lab tests at Makerere University- 2024 has helped develop the solution to a growing problem. Both in Uganda, and any region that is struggling through a crisis, access to vital nutrients is an apparent need.
What We Achieved in 2024
This year, our efforts in Uganda were nothing short of inspiring! We reached 2,400 students and 300 community members, providing them with spirulina to boost their nutrition and health. Partnering with schools and community leaders, we saw first-hand how adding spirulina to meals made a difference—from helping kids stay focused in school to improving overall energy levels. With Masaka Regional Hospital, we were able to reach out to another 100 children.
It’s amazing how something so small (like spirulina!) can have such a big impact.
What’s Next for 2025
We’re keeping the momentum going in Uganda, but we’re also working on something new and exciting: Atlas AID!
Atlas AID is our first product—a spirulina-infused hydration powder designed for quick, easy use in emergencies and ongoing crises. Imagine something you can mix with water that hydrates and nourishes at the same time. That’s Atlas AID! It’s perfect for situations where malnutrition is high, and it can be a game-changer for disaster response.
Here’s why we’re so excited about it:
Looking Ahead
2025 is shaping up to be another impactful year. With our continued work efforts on all fronts and the launch of Atlas AID, we’re aiming to reach even more people in need. Whether it’s in classrooms, communities, or disaster zones, we’re committed to bringing sustainable solutions to the fight against malnutrition.
Thank you for supporting us and being part of this journey.
