While the year 2023 ended with a blast – (thanks to the last 4 clean-ups of the year where we avoided up to 2,279 kilos of mostly plastic residues to the sea!), this 2024 (with already three clean-ups underway and 135 kilos avoided to the ocean) has been marked by extreme weather conditions in Cartagena. High winds, high tides, and high waves have left the city with inundated streets, lands, beaches, and a sense of urgency for adaptation.
Baselines seem to be shifting and uncertainty seems to reign in regards to our environmental future. More than ever, it is of crucial importance to maintain our ecosystems as healthy as possible to withstand the extreme weather conditions the whole planet is facing.
To help new generations fall in love with the world and connect to nature, Fundacion Bahia is developing the Resilient Punta Arena project! Thanks to the generous support from Help Alliance, Fundacion Bahia will be able to tackle 3 important objectives in its quest to strengthen the environmental, historical, and socioeconomic culture of women and children of the community of Punta Arena, to improve the quality of life. The three main objectives are: 1. To promote a sustainable economy based on sustainable community eco-tourism, for the conservation of the environment, the culture and to benefit more members of the community. 2. To strengthen and recover the historical culture from the perspective of women in Punta Arena. 3. To promote the conservation and protection of marine-coastal ecosystems through quality education and environmental actions in the community.
Stay tuned to our continuous efforts to protect and conserve our environment while helping out and working with the community.
