Hello Supporters,
Since we began we have raised just over $600 on GlobalGiving and from our own fundraising and donors we raised a further $1,000. So what did we do with all these funds that were donated?
Firstly we decided we needed to make it as easy as possible for women that are victims of domestic violence to get in touch with us so we funded 12 months a 'Toll-free' phone number and WhatsApp for women to reach us we then put $200 towards the marketing of this number and wow did this work! We were flooded with calls and we jumped into action.
Now the next stage was providing support for these women to help them through their situation and everyone is different. Some we had to move quickly to safe homes, others we worked with them on different exit strategies and in some cases we were able to take some victims to a lawyer and take legal action. The remaining donated funds went to covering transport costs to and from the courts and paid for expenses for these women along with the relocation to safe homes. Using pro-bono lawyers and safe houses we have supported over 300 women but sadly at the end of February our donations run out and we will not be able to provide a free phone service or any additional financial support but we will continue to pick up the phone and help where we can.
