Project Report | Sep 21, 2022
26 years of providing food, joy and love.

By Leonel Ramirez | Project Leader

We want to tell you everything we have achieved in these last five months, in favor of vulnerable families in the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala.

On behalf of thousands of families, thank you very much, your generosity provides food, but also joy in many hearts where sometimes only hope lived.

In recent months, we have provided food support to an average of 145,000 people weekly, through 220 delivery points for food packages in the States of Puebla and Tlaxcala, also we have avoided food waste rescuing an average of 1,300,435 kilos of perishable food each month and we deliver from May to August, 209,964 food packages.

We created a nutrition project to specifically serve childs who live with food insecurity in highly marginalized areas in Puebla. With this support we seek to train childs on hygiene, good nutrition, but also workshops were held so that parents or guardians could provide more effective and timely monitoring of the nutrition of the little ones at home.

Our project has not finished, but we already have global results of the nutritional status in 8 communities.
It was observed that 61.3%, more than half of the population has a diagnosis of normality; although we also found that 11.7% continue to suffer from some type of malnutrition.

These results are obtained from 520 children evaluated and it was found that 26.9% of the population is affected by overweight and obesity; in the other pole 11.7% of the population with some degree of malnutrition.

Within the population served, 32.9% do not have a height according to their age and sex, so we will continue with the nutritional intervention to stop the loss of height and recover normal growth in these childs. All this as far as resources allow us to continue providing the means for care.

Soon we will provide more information on this project and the achievements of the childs who have participated so far, hoping to improve their quality of life to grow up to be healthy adults with greater possibilities.

On another very important point, I would like to thank and share with you on behalf of the entire community of Banco de Alimentos Cáritas Puebla, that we celebrate 26 years of improving the lives of thousands of vulnerable families through food and that thanks to people like you and your generosity, we are a reliable means to bring food where it was really needed, even in the uncertainty of the times we live in, we could count on you providing food, comfort and hope.

We are happy to share a short video with a brief overview of our history during our first 26 years of experience being a reliable bridge between abundance and lack.(Spanish version)
