In April and May, Kidsave’sHouston Weekend Miracles program brought together foster kids and potential host families for two unforgettable nights at the Astros games—and what happened at the ballpark was more than just baseball.
These games gave them and host families a chance to connect in a relaxed, natural way. With no pressure and no formal setting, everyone had the freedom to simply be themselves. Surrounded by cheers, stadium lights, and the smell of hot dogs, relationships started to grow—gently, and with real joy.
Phillis, one of our potential hosts, spent the game with Jallis, chatting and enjoying the shared experience together. James, another host in the process, came with his mom and spent the evening with Paul, while Joshua, also exploring the hosting journey, attended the game with Damerious, one of our Kidsave kids.
Watching these moments unfold—seeing the laughter, the side conversations, and the comfort growing between them—was a powerful reminder of why we do this. The Astros game became a space where connections could start forming simply through being present and having fun together.
There were three possible matches at the games in total. It’s incredible what a few hours in a stadium seat can do—sometimes the right moment just needs the right setting to begin.
What made it even more special was the presence of a few of our Kidsave adoptees and their families, who joined us for the game. Seeing children who had once been in the same place as those attending now thriving with their forever families brought everything full circle. Their presence reminded us how far love, time, and connection can go.
Events like this are a vital part of Weekend Miracles. They help kids feel seen, valued, and included—not as part of a program, but as people, just like everyone else. They give host families the chance to meet the kids where they are—in joy, in laughter, in life.
Because at the end of the day, this work is about more than structure, timelines, or paperwork. It’s about building real relationships. And sometimes, the foundation of those relationships starts with a hot dog, a shared laugh, and a home run.
This is what Weekend Miraclesis made of: simple moments that spark something lasting. And for these kids and the families who are getting to know them, the journey forward just might have started at the ballpark.
If stories like these speak to you, we invite you to learn more about ourHouston Weekend Miracles Program and the role caring adults can play in a child’s life.
