Fishan Steady and Strong, Grace in his Steps!

By Sunel Craythorne | Donor Care Officer

We are so grateful to have you as part of our HERD family. Your support means the world to us, and we are excited to share an update on Fishan.

Fishan continues to embrace his role as the quiet guardian of the herd, finding peace in his own company while always remaining a steady presence for those around him. It has been six years since his leg injury, and we are pleased to share that he is looking strong, feeding well, and maintaining his place within the herd.

At an impressive 3.36 metres in height, Fishan holds the third position among the males. He chooses to stay with the females and younger elephants rather than engage in dominance contests. He plays a vital role in maintaining harmony, often watching over the youngsters while the older bulls focus on their pursuits. Though he keeps a low profile, he occasionally engages in gentle play with Jabulani, showing that his spirit remains as steady and calm as ever.

Water remains one of Fishan’s greatest joys—he loves swimming and cooling off with mud baths, a soothing way to care for his skin and relax during the warmer months. Recently, he was part of a striking moment at the waterhole, standing alongside Setombe, Jabulani, and Tokwe as they instinctively formed a defensive line when a resident hippo boldly marked his territory.

Fishan is doing well and doing it all because of the incredible support he receives from his elephant family and you.

Thank you for your continued support. Your commitment to Fishan makes all the difference.
