Fishan Brave Elephant who Survived a Fractured leg

Fishan continues to show remarkable resilience as he navigates life with an injured leg. His care remains a priority, and we are encouraged by the patience, strength, and steady spirit he shows each day.

Since July Fishan has been placed on a new pain management treatment plan, which has been highly successful in helping him adjust to life with a permanent limp.

Currently, Fishan receives Previcox, a specialised joint support & pain modulation powder. While his pressure wound is being treated with F10 germicidal spray, as well as colloidal silver and acriflavine in glycerin. These treatments have become less frequent since the wound has been healing successfully.

While there are still uncertainties around his long-term recovery, he continues to cope admirably, and remains engaged with his surroundings and herd companions. The new medication has helped Fishan tremendously.

Recent observations have also provided encouraging reminders of the strength he still possesses. During one outing, Fishan demonstrated impressive power by pulling an entire tree from the ground to access fresh leaves at the top of the tree. This is a wonderful example of his determination and ability to adapt while continuing to enjoy life in the bush.

 As one of the more senior bulls in the herd, Fishan maintains an important position within the herd's social structure. Ranked just behind Jabulani and Sebakwe, he is a respected and dependable presence among the elephants. Although his injury has slowed him down, it has not diminished his character or the role he plays within the herd.

Fishan has been spending more time towards the back of the herd, often alongside his close companion Bubi. To ease pressure on his injured leg, he moves at a slower pace and avoids unnecessary long distances. Instead, he settles into good feeding spots, browsing peacefully at his own pace and conserving energy while remaining comfortable.

Despite his physical challenges, Fishan remains deeply invested in the younger elephants. He is especially attentive towards Khanyisa, Lundi, Pisa, Timisa, and the other youngsters, keeping a watchful eye on them while they explore and feed. During one recent interaction, he calmly stepped in to discipline Zindoga when the younger bull became overly boisterous, demonstrating that he continues to play an important role in maintaining harmony within the herd.

Timisa has also developed a particularly close bond with Fishan, often choosing to spend time alongside him while out in the bush. Their friendship is a heartwarming example of the trust and security younger elephants find in the herd's more experienced members.
