Cold weather has a negative effect on our energy and productivity levels, we even tend to eat more during winter to feel more warm and more energetic. As for the less fortunate, their suffering is doubled as a result of what they suffer from health deterioration, malnutrition and insecurity. All of this is due to the lack of resources and the poor economic situation, which results in them giving up some of their priorities in exchange for others, or choosing between them. One of those priorities is food. Many charity organizations encourage donating for products that are considered direct sources of warmth, such as blankets, clothes and covers in general, but we cannot ignore food as a primary source of warmth.
Egyptian food bank has developed a program named "Tekeya" to meet the nutritional needs of the unprivileged peopleall year and specially during the cold days, as it plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of people who suffer from economic and social difficulties in Egypt.Through the Tekeya Program, the Egyptian Food Bank prepares and distributes daily hot meals to needy people through EFB-equipped kitchens which are managed by our partners across Egypt’s governorates. Simply, the Tekeya is a place that provides food to poor and needy families daily throughout the year for free.
Program Target groups:Single household Mother - Elderly - disabled - foreign students - passers-by
The Tekeya program is implemented in 16 governorates in Egypt:Cairo - Giza - Beheira - Dakahlia - Gharbia - Menoufia - Sharkia - Kafr El-Sheikh - Fayoum - Beni Suef - Minya - Assiut - Sohag - Luxor - Aswan - Red Sea
The number of meals provided on a monthly basis is around 61,000 meals, serving daily 2,100 beneficiaries in the previously mentioned governorates.
Meal components:(Rice or pasta + chicken or meat + vegetables)
