The situation in Mossul
The situation for people in and around Mossul has changed daily since the beginning of the offensive. The United Nations estimates that more than 91,000 people have been expelled from the city and its surrounding villages. Their escape routes are dependent on the respective changing fighting areas. The further the international coalition forces are advancing towards the center of the city, the more difficult it becomes for refugees to get from the city and the surrounding villages into safe areas. Many families do not want to leave their houses - because the IS threatens to kill fleeces or abuse them as human shields. In addition, the danger is great to get into the line of fire of different troops.
Our activities
The Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe was already active in the run-up to the offensive. Since 1 November, our partner- organization REACH Iraq has been supplying incoming displaced persons with food packages as well as kitchen and accommodation utensils. A total of 4,690 families are available. Food security is at the forefront. Apart from food, each family also receives utensils that they need to prepare meals. This includes a kitchen set, a cooker, a water canister, six plastic cups as well as four blankets and four pillows.
In this situation we need your support! Thank's a lot,
yours
