Welcome Q1 of 2022!
We did some pretty heavy lifting in 2020 and 2021 and we are so glad that hard work is continuing to blossom this year. Thank you for your support and getting on board this Wa'ik experience.
Expo2020 Dubai
We were invited to the Global Goals Week for Expo2020 Dubai in January 2022, thanks to the Expo, Project Everyone and One Young World, with some of their ambassadors delegation. Representing SDG 2, here is our message posted on the Expo official YouTube channel, detailing our "Do To List" to reach the SDGs, filmed from the Sustainability Pavilion.
Also, a big shoutout to our monthly donors on GlobalGiving! During the Global Best Practice Programme Assembly, Bibi la Luz, our founder, responded to the question "the most surprising source of funding" asked by the host. She presented to the audicence in 3:24:00 She took the mic and spoke about the montly donors on GlobalGiving as the most surprising and unexpectatly gratifying source of funding for our projects. So, thank you!! And thank you team who made this possible for us to attend and be taken such into consideration with many more leaders!
Valentine's Day themed with japanese homemade ramen
We teamed up with the restaurant Bonito Ramen to celebrate Valentine's Day, a day of love, care for one and one-another. How? By differentiating in our food deliveries the nutrient-filled ramen vs. instant ramen bought at the little shops. So, we did our Improved Food Basket delivery (with lots of fruits and veggies bought at the market in zone 1) and served ramen by Bonito. There we presented our usual health guides, and also some homework to do at home, during the delivery and learning japanese hiragana of Itadakimasu (¡buen provecho!). Moreover, we had the support of 500 issues of the magazine Niponica by the Embassy of Japan in Guatemala to learn more at home! We had Jasmine, a UK volunteer support us in all the process, Guatemalan and Japanese speakers for the workshops. Wonderful! ¡Qué bonito es demostrarse amor comiendo mejor! Watch our reel here posted on Women's Day (the majority of the team and recipients are indeed women and girls!).
Our SROI almost doubled!
We are so incredibly grateful to be included once again in the One Young World Impact Report! This year's report on 2021, our Social Return on Investment was also measured! And from the last time it was done in 2017, it was 1:7. This year, it has grown to 1:12 - meaning: for every USD 1 invested in Wa'ik, we return USD 12 in social value. Please see our direct feature here. Fantastic news!!!
Women's Day - 25 women shaping the future
We were featured in ChangeNOW "Women of Change", with 25 women shaping our future, in partnership with Cartier Women's Initiative, Kering, UN Women, HeForShe, One Young World, Women in Tech, and UNHCR. See the full list here.
More, more, and taking a moment
We have a new Board of Directors, and we are cooking something special. Hygene, food safety, security and health, along with forests and gastronomy. Also, we are working towards our MVP with the Cohort 3 of the Food Systems Game Changers Lab planning grant on feeding children nutritiously with a tech solution, which we will be implementing with the community in Concecpión Pinula. We've also been speaking in some specific groups on food.
Also, we are taking a breather.. a moment. To re-center, recharge, and get back on track, health wise. It's been some hectic years, and to keep advancing the way we want to, we are taking a moment. A now, after Easter, we are back again! Keep supporting us!
