Food creativity: healthier families in Guatemala

Hello and welcome to our first report of 2025!

This year 2025 marks a remarkable achievement for Wa’ik, because our first pilot project took place 10 years ago! We are about to celebrate our first decade anniversary from mid-year up to mid 2026, ten years after we were formally registered as a non-profit in Guatemala in 2016. 

Christmas Food and Presents Party

For our Christmas activity in Concepción Pinula, we did an outstanding food and present activity in December led by Celeste Aida. 

For the kids, we partnered once again with Nutriversa from Grupo Hermo to bring joy and spirit to 500 children with Christmas presents, together with a clown and food talks, music and dancing! Massive and extraordinary fun! 

Simultaneously, our Improved Christmas Delivery was held, with 500 pineapples, broccoli and Christmas spices for the mother and grown-ups (together with their kids too) was delivered, alongside a food workshop. Altogether, 400 families were served their Christmas meal and drink, all natural, healthy, plastic-free and sugar-free. 

From that delivery, more families came, as the word has spread beyond the village, and where locals have become fruit-veg entrepreneurs!

Finally, we also took pineapple to Fray Lubin in zone 1, as they provide food for the homeless there. 

#366Peaches completed! 

As we finished the 366 days of 2024, so did our daily dose of #366Peaches or #366Duraznos or #366Momo. 

It was a wonderful and eye opening experience, which not only did we bring together creative education on fruits, but a entire world regarding the fruit. From bringing together peaches or durazno in Japan and Guatemala, this year-long adventure became the first part of this long-lasting fascination with peaches.
