In Somalia, 1,274,540 rural people are in crisis or emergency due to severe drought. Livestock losses, rising food prices, and water shortages are pushing families toward hunger. This project will provide emergency food assistance to the most vulnerable households, preventing acute malnutrition, protecting livelihoods, and helping communities survive the escalating food crisis.
Severe drought in Northeast Somalia has pushed 1,274,540 rural people into Crisis and Emergency food insecurity. Failed rains, dried water sources, and livestock losses have devastated livelihoods in Sanaag, Bari, and Nugaal regions. Food prices are rising while incomes fall, forcing families into debt and distress sales. Malnutrition is at Critical levels in several zones, and displacement is increasing as households struggle to survive.
This project will provide emergency food and cash assistance to the most vulnerable households in IPC 3 and 4 areas. It will also support livestock protection, water access, and nutrition screening for children and pregnant women. By combining life-saving food support with livelihood protection, we will reduce hunger, prevent malnutrition, stabilize families, and protect the assets communities need to recover.
Preventing livestock collapse, reducing malnutrition, and stabilizing food access, this project protects the foundation of pastoral livelihoods. Families will avoid deeper debt, distress migration, and irreversible asset loss. Strengthened resilience and improved coping capacity will reduce vulnerability to future drought shocks and help communities move toward recovery instead of escalating into famine conditions.
