Food Palliatives for 5,000 Struggling Single Mums

Summary

Thousands of single mothers in Nigeria struggle daily to feed their children due to loss of income, inflation, and lack of support. Many skip meals so their children can eat, leaving them malnourished and exhausted. This project will provide monthly food palliatives-rice, beans, oil, and other staples-to 2,000 struggling single mums for six months. Timely food support will reduce hunger, improve child nutrition, and give mothers relief from the pressure of food insecurity.

Challenge

Single mothers face severe financial hardship, with many earning below the poverty line and struggling to feed their children. The rising cost of food has left countless families in hunger. Mothers are often forced to skip meals so children can eat, which affects their health and ability to work. Hunger leads to poor child growth, low school attendance, and weakened immunity, worsening the cycle of poverty and suffering for families headed by single mums.

Solution

The project will provide monthly food packs containing rice, beans, oil, and basic staples to 2,000 struggling single mothers. These food palliatives will reduce the burden of daily hunger, improve children's nutrition, and allow mothers to focus on seeking income or small jobs instead of worrying about the next meal. Regular food distribution will give immediate relief and stabilize families struggling with poverty and food insecurity.

Long-Term Impact

By providing food palliatives, children of single mums will have improved nutrition, which can boost school performance and overall health. Mothers will have more energy and stability to engage in small businesses or community work. Consistent support will reduce malnutrition, hunger-related illnesses, and the emotional stress of food insecurity. This can break part of the cycle of poverty and strengthen families headed by single mothers.
