IBC RUNS FOR SUPPORT OF WAR VICTIMS in KHERSON

By Salima Biglary | Programs and Partnerships Coordinator

Due to the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine, as IBC; we continue to carry out effective emergency response organizations in many areas to support basic human rights.

We provide support in many areas such as food security, medical assistance, water supply, and shelter systems in areas of the country with limited transportation facilities for people who have been forced to flee their region due to the conflicts, while providing opportunities for our local stakeholders in the field to develop their capacities.

Our target groups include vulnerable groups such as women, the elderly, internally displaced persons, refugees, persons with disabilities, and people living with minorities. However, our primary goal in all our projects is to ensure health, nutrition, education, access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and protection, especially for war-affected children and their families.

As IBC, we strive to improve the living conditions of all disadvantaged groups with rights and community-based approach in all the geographies we work in; we work in cooperation with local organizations, local administrative bodies, and institutions such as OCHA to support all these efforts; we continue to contribute to humanitarian response coordination by sharing data, project results, and evaluation reports on international platforms.

We continue to implement and develop our projects with the support of UMCOR, Action Medeor, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and the Canadian Ukrainian Foundation, as well as the support of our main funders.

7 PROJECTS WE DEVELOPED FOR DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES IN UKRAINE IN 7 STEPS

Emergency Response: We respond to urgent humanitarian needs arising from the conflicts in the region, providing shelter, food packages, thermal blankets, and sleeping mats for the most vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and the disabled.

Food Security: We meet the basic nutritional needs of people in war-affected areas with hot meals, over 2,500 pieces of fresh bread produced in mobile bakeries daily, and food parcel distributions.

Water Support: More than 70 residential areas were flooded after the dam attack in the Kherson region of Ukraine on June 6. In Kherson, where many houses were destroyed and lives were lost, we meet the daily need for 70 tons of clean water with the water tanks we established. In this context, our efforts to provide drinking water supply, domestic water supply, distribution of hygiene kits, supply of water filters, purification tablets, and establishment of permanent water tanks are among the projects we prioritize for the summer months. In the past weeks, we have started distributing clean water by installing water tanks in all residential areas: 10 tons for Chornovola Highway, 10 tons for Gvardiyiskoi district, 4 tons for Kherson Boulevard, 2 tons for Vyshneva Street, 2 tons for Komkova Street, 2 tons for Lavryneva Street.

Health Services: In addition to providing medicines and medical supplies, building outpatient clinics and providing ambulances to meet the needs of war-affected people, we are providing advanced first aid kits such as anticoagulants and tourniquets to facilitate first aid interventions in emergency situations.

Winterization Support: We provide support to people affected by adverse winter conditions to meet basic needs such as thermal blankets, and sleeping mats and to renovate houses.

Community Center: Through community centers, which provide free services, especially for vulnerable groups such as women, the elderly, and children, we support those in need by providing services such as food, sanitation, clean water, and internet access, and contribute to their spiritual and social development.
