Dear Donors,
We are appealing for support for the For $10, Empower Girls in Slums for Self-reliance project. At this time, no donations have been received, and the training activities cannot yet begin.
In many urban slum communities, girls leave school early because their families cannot afford school fees, uniforms, or other daily needs. Poverty places heavy pressure on households, and parents may choose to send boys to school while girls stay home. Without education or income, many girls depend entirely on others for survival.
Some girls face early marriage, early pregnancy, or unsafe forms of work simply to meet their basic needs. Many cannot afford simple items such as soap, sanitary pads, school books, or medical care. Without practical skills or small income opportunities, they remain trapped in a cycle of poverty with little chance to improve their situation.
This project will train 1,100 girls living in slum communities in practical skills such as tailoring, soap-making, reusable pad production, and small-scale trading. Each participant will receive the materials and tools needed to begin producing items that can be used at home or sold locally. Training sessions will be organized within the communities so that girls can learn safely and close to their homes.
Through these skills, girls can begin earning small income to support their own needs. They may use their earnings to buy school supplies, cover health expenses, or help their families with basic costs.
However, since no funds have been raised yet, the training sessions and materials distribution cannot begin. We continue to seek support so these girls can gain practical skills that help them remain in school and move toward greater independence.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
