Dear donors,
I sometimes think that rainforests are overrated.
Like, it's OK to expect rain but every single day after serious flooding and loss of life a few weeks back? We can't get our clothes dry, and there's a faint and subtle smell of mildew everywhere. The internet gets temperamental, we've had more power outages than usual, and the dirt roads are a nightmare.
Yet..... unlike many of our counterparts in the Global South - now renamed the Global Majority - we don't have to collect every drop of water for our families, our crops don't wither, and we know that deep in the earth new life is stirring.
We know that the young trees we've planted over the past few months are grateful. The avocado tree on campus is heavy with fruit. The springs are flowing strong. So what's a little mud among friends?
No, we won't complain - we are truly grateful. To everything there is a season, and we'll celebrate the next sunny day.
What would the rainforest be like without rain?!
Check out our photos of the forest nursery. These seedlings will be ready to plant when the next rainy season comes around.
And thank you, dear donors for your support. More forests bring more rain. More rain supports more forests.
It's all good!
with love and appreciation,
Forestry manager Luiz, nursery manager Deivid, the field staff and all of us at Iracambi
