Project Report 24-February-2019

By Rainer Lang | Project Director

Dear Supporters,

Thank you so much for your help and support for this extraordinary project.

The Trauma Relief for Refugees in Germany project has been established end-November 2018 to meet the ongoing need for integration and rehabilitation for refugees in Germany.

As you are probably all aware, Germany has welcomed more than a million refuges from mainly war exposed countries like Syria and Afghanistan. Integration efforts have not been very successful as the impact of trauma has been highly underestimated.

Our project has started to very successfully bridge this gap.

Due to very limited resources, financial and human, we have started to create a larger footprint by training trainers for the Healing, Resilience and Empowerment (HRE) program, recruiting volunteers and getting more public and governmental attention.

We have trained another 12 trainers who have started to become active in their respective living areas (Berlin, Dresden, Rosenheim) and after the Christmas Break of governmental authorities three new projects in Dresden, Rosenheim and Munich are coming up to speed.

We have also broadened our internet footprint – end of February the iahv.de website will go live with more information especially about our HRE programs in Germany. We have made an effort to build the website bi-lingually (German and English) in order to reach beyond the German speaking countries.

We would have very much liked to provide you with photos – however as many of the participants still have family members back in their countries of origin (Syria, Afghanistan)
they are in great fear of endangering these family members by having photos published. Of course, we respect their wishes and request for not publishing photos of theirs – and we are also bound by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union in this sensitive matter.

BIG THANK YOU for all your support !!
We will keep you posted on further developments.

We look forward to your ongoing support and would appreciate if you also talked to family and friends about our project to spread awareness of this important matter.

Best regards
IAHV HRE Germany Team
