For one day, the landfill was not the centre of these children’s and their families' world. Instead, there was laughter, movement, and the freedom to play. Our partner organised a Sports Day, which gave children from wastepicker families the chance to run, jump, cheer each other on and enjoy activities every child deserves.
These children are part of an education programme run by our partner, which keeps them out of waste picking and away from daily exposure to toxic and hazardous materials. By supporting their learning, your support helps ensure that their time is spent in classrooms and safe spaces, not at landfill sites.
Days like this are an important part of that journey. Play builds confidence, trust and a sense of belonging. It reminds children that their lives can be shaped by opportunity, not risk.
The smiles in these photos reflect what your support makes possible: safety, education and moments of joy in places where they are needed most.
Thank you for your support.
