Chronic kidney disease affects over 20 million Nigerians, and many patients cannot afford regular dialysis. Each session costs about $100, yet most patients need at least 2-3 sessions weekly. Families in low-income settings often abandon treatment, leading to avoidable deaths. This project will provide free dialysis sessions for 500 patients who cannot afford care. Immediate support will reduce suffering and give patients a chance to live longer, healthier lives with their families.
Kidney disease is rising in Nigeria due to untreated hypertension, diabetes, and poor access to healthcare. Patients who reach end-stage kidney failure depend on dialysis to survive, but treatment is too expensive for most families. Without regular dialysis, toxins build up in the blood, leading to heart failure, stroke, or death. Many patients skip sessions or stop treatment altogether because of cost, leaving thousands at risk of dying prematurely.
This project will cover the cost of dialysis sessions for 500 low-income patients in selected hospitals. Funds will pay for treatment consumables, laboratory checks, and machine use. Patients will be scheduled for regular sessions to maintain stability and prolong life. By removing the cost barrier, more patients will stay in treatment, reducing preventable deaths and giving them more time with their families.
Access to free dialysis will improve survival rates for patients with kidney failure in Nigeria. Families who could not previously afford care will see their loved ones live longer and maintain daily activities. Local hospitals will also benefit from strengthened capacity to serve disadvantaged patients. In the long term, the project will raise awareness of kidney health and the importance of early detection, while giving hundreds of patients a chance at life.
