We're currently celebrating the power of the crowd, by recognising the incredible impact a group of people can have, when they work together. Thanks to all of our staff, volunteers and donors, 2018 brought some big developments and great successes at Helping Hands. You can take a look at some of the highlights in our annual report.
Back in February our students came together to work on making a big impact on their local community... read on to find out how they got on!
And as we look forward to the rest of 2019, we look to you, our loyal crowd of followers, and humbly ask for your continued support. With GlobalGiving's match campaign underway this week, there has never been a better time to show your support. Read on for all the details, and to see how you could ensure we have the power of the crowd.
GlobalGiving's Match Campaign
GlobalGivings little by little match campaign has begun. From now until Friday 12th April, GlobalGiving will match each donation up to $50 by a huge 60%!!
No matter how much you can spare, this is the perfect time to maximise the impact of your donation and make a difference to a childs life.
$10 becomes $16
$25 becomes $40
$50 becomes $80
On top of this, if you're able to commit to a monthly donation, GlobalGiving will match this by an additional 100%
e.g. If you can commit to $20 donation each month, we will receive an additional $12 from the 60% match and $20 from the 100% match = a total of $32 of additional funds!!
We're so happy and proud to be able to share positive developments with you! However, these changes do unfortunately impact on our running costs. We're committed to maintaining our programme, and continuing to look for ways of improving and developing what we offer, but to do this we need your help. Could you spare a few pounds or dollars each month to help us cover costs and look for future development?
Every little really does help and can go a long way in Cambodia. Any amount you can spare will be hugely appreciated, and with the match campaign, your donation will go even further!

Community Work
We’re working on teaching our students to love our planet, and love our community. In February, our students came together to support their local community by participating in a clean up of their village.
Like many rural areas in Cambodia, the village of Prasat Char struggles to dispose of rubbish. There are no waste management services that cover the area, so many families are left with no other option than to dump litter or burn their waste, releasing harmful toxins into the air.
The aim of the clean up was to raise awareness amongst our students and the wider community and educate them on how to make small changes to reduce and manage their waste
Our students learnt about the importance of caring for our environment and the harmful effects of plastic. They also picked up some tips on how to reduce waste, use less plastic and re-use and up-cycle different materials. Our clean-up also served to raise awareness in the community.
Our students really impressed us with their understanding and enthusiasm for the clean-up. They came up with some great pledges to reduce their use of plastic, and committed to encouraging their family members to do the same.
It just goes to show what can be achieved when people come together to support or work on a single goal. Great work everyone!
A Sad Farewell, but a Happy and Warm Welcome!
At the end of March, we sadly said farewell to one of our much-loved teachers,Thong. Thong has been working at Helping Hands for just over 2 years, teaching both English and Khmer. Always smiling and laughing, Thong built a great rapport with her students and the other staff, and she will be hugely missed by all of us!
We're all very sad to see Thong go, but we wish her the best of luck in her new role.
There's always a silver lining, and Thongs departure means we can welcome Dalie (pictured below) to the team. Dalie is a former Helping Hands student and current University Scholarship recipient, thanks to the Stott family. Dalie is in her 3rd year of studying and has already completed 2 teacher training courses, and has practical teaching experience. Dalie currently teaches part-time at the local Government school and is coming on board at Helping Hands on a part-time basis too. We're all very excited to have Dalie on the team!
Volunteers in Action
Health care workers Telisha, Kiran and Jayne from the UK travelled to Cambodia together to share their volunteer experience.
All so full of enthusiasm, they quickly got stuck in to supporting our teachers and running some fun sessions with games, singing and lots of English speaking! The three ladies also delivered an amazing first aid workshop to our alumni who volunteer at school. The young volunteers loved learning new skills and are really happy they can now help our students and people in the village if they need it. Telisha, Kiran and Jayne even brought a little first aid kit for each of the participants so they are now fully equipped to help anyone in need of first aid care!
A huge thank you to these three ladies for giving their time and sharing their knowledge with us.
A big, big thank you to each and every one of our wonderful volunteers from the past couple of months; John, Sarah and Stephen, Nirav, Mariana, Brigitte and liz, Telisha, Kiran and Jayne, and Darron you have all been such a big help!
