Kong: Giving Back with Compassion

Kong, one of our former students, now works as a social worker at Helping Hands Cambodia. Her journey—from a young girl in need to a university graduate and now a vital member of our team—is a testament to what your generosity makes possible. Today, Kong works closely with teachers and families to address the barriers children face in accessing education. She provides support ranging from school supplies and bicycles to family counseling and home visits, tackling challenges like chronic absenteeism and poverty head-on.

Kong’s work is deeply personal. The struggles our students face mirror her own childhood experiences. That’s why she’s such a powerful advocate—she understands, she listens, and she acts. Though the challenges are often difficult, including extreme poverty and cultural mistrust, her compassion and resilience shine through. Her dream is to see Helping Hands expand into health and sanitation, knowing that academic success begins with overall well-being.

Higher Education in Action: Scholarship Student Updates

Ponna, now studying Public Administration at the University of South-East Asia, has completed his first semester while working full-time as a hotel housekeeper. His favorite subjects include Law and Critical Thinking, and though he’s found Computer Studies and Microeconomics challenging, he remains determined. He is looking forward to courses like Political Science and Criminal Law in his second semester and is deeply grateful for the opportunity you’ve helped create.

Nita, studying Teaching English as a Second Language at the same university, found great joy in her Khmer and English Literature courses. While Microeconomics and Critical Thinking stretched her comfort zone, she feels empowered by her growing confidence. She’s excited for the new semester and inspired by her own progress—none of which would be possible without donor support.
