Here comes the summer!

Nico pictured here is six years old. He is only one child from our 292 beneficiaries of  “free schools meals” program. All of them have spent the last seven months eating in their schools, from Monday to Friday, and assuring at least one meal per with the necessary nutrients.

As a result of the economic crisis in Spain the number of children living below the poverty line has increased dramatically.  This is of concern to us as children are the first to suffer when their parents lose their jobs or when their family income is diminished, and the quality of their care or nutrition  is compromised.  This project is necessary to the extent that a need is detected by the social services of this area due to the lack of sufficient intervention specific resources. This service therefore is a relief for the care of these children at no cost to the families, providing the necessary and appropriate specialized care to each child.

The summer is here and the schools are closed. Luckily we still support these children.  Most of them attend every day to our Aldeas Infantiles Day Care Center.  The project is based on an agreement between the local council and Aldeas infantiles SOS, and aims to develop activities which facilitate prevention, care and social integration for children and families at risk of vulnerability, exclusion or social conflict. It thus helps to strengthen the family and to integrate the younger generations into normal life. Their dayly meals are still guaranteed thanks to your support.

“I like to come here every day and spend the day with my friends playing and eating well.” I love watermelon, it´s my favorite fruit! It´s yummy” Nico said.

During the last school year (2015-2016) we have Had 292 children in our Free school meals program spread out in 48 schools around the country. Ours beneficiaries are children at social risk from families who are suffering dramatic situations including evictions and lack of economical resources, even basic needs such as food and clothing.

In the name of Children we want to say a big thank you to our donors. The running cost is 5 euros child/day and 900 euros per child/year.
