Rutuja is in year 3 at Karhe primary school . She comes from a poor family who due to their economic conditions find it difficult to buy books, notebooks and uniforms for Rutuja and her sister who is in year 9.
When school started last June, Rutuja did not go. Her school teacher informed NISD’s social worker who paid a visit to the family to enquire why Rutuja was not sent to school. Upon knowing about the hardship faced by the family, NISD provided the needed educational materials to Rutuja and her sister who also did not go to school.
Rutuja received a new school bag, school books, note books, a uniform, a geometry box, pens and colouring pens. Through this help, NISD saved Rutuja from the risk of dropping out of school due to poverty, and she is now continuing her education with her peers.
NISD provides support with educational material to the 550 children from the poorest families each year.
Rutuja's mother also joined one of the women self-help groups organised by NISD, so she can get a loan and start a small dairy business.
