Building resilience while schools are out

By Erika Narkiewicz | Digital Fundraiser

According to Human Rights Watch Report 2014, 51% of Dalit children drop, or are forced, out of school before the age of 14, compared to the national average of 37%. For Dalit adolescent girls, it’s 64%.

The effects of coronavirus risk raising these numbers significantly higher, widening the privilege gap even further. However, we’re working hard so that this decline is not inevitable.

Our partners in Maharashtra have conducted surveys with women, school children and teachers to understand the effects of the coronavirus on their day to day life, how it will affect them in near future and how to cope with it.

They have found out which girls need educational materials such as notebooks and bicycles for a return to school and in the meantime, have designed and distributed educational material. The notebooks also include information about the virus and ways to keep safe.

India is arguably yet to reach its peak of the coronavirus. With your help and donations, we stand in solidarity with our partners as they continue to meet the changing landscape in our communities.
