From Child Labour to College: Support Her Future

Prisha is a housewife and her husband is a farmer. Together, they own a modest plot of land. Though their income is limited, they somehow stretch it to feed their family and support both their children’s education.

But things are getting tougher. If Prisha cannot raise more income, she will have to choose between food and education for her children - a choice she cannot bear to think about.  

With agricultural farming, the income generated is seasonal and can vary moment to moment. By selling milk, Prisha can stay afloat throughout the year; but, with only one cow, it just isn't enough. A second cow would cost at least 30,000 rupees, which she simply cannot afford.  

What can she do?  

Fortunately, our partner’s project, which is involved in helping children and their families escape poverty and gain an education, was able to make contact with Prisha.  

After, our social workers met with Prisha and assessed how best to support her and her family, they were able to facilitate and fund the purchase of a second cow for Prisha's family. Prisha and her husband were overjoyed. For them, it isn't just a cow; it's a stable and secure future for themselves and their children.

The profits from one cow doubles their income and frees them from the choice between food and education.
