Varudi Pathar is a small village in the hilly region of Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) District. The area is remote, drought-prone and economically disadvantaged. With no local industries, most families rely on agriculture and daily wage labour, often struggling to meet basic needs. In many households, both parents work as labourers to support their children.
The village has a high school run by a charitable trust, operating with very limited infrastructure due to ongoing financial constraints. Most students come from tribal and scheduled caste communities and face significant economic challenges. The school has only one computer, used solely for administrative tasks. Many girls have never seen or used a laptop or computer, and their families cannot afford to provide one at home.
This lack of access to technology creates a major disadvantage when these girls pursue higher education. They often find it difficult to compete with peers from urban areas, which affects their confidence and academic performance.
Thanks to your support, NISD has been able to address this issue by introducing a programme to teach basic computer skills to rural girls. Laptops and trained instructors have been provided, and 12 high school girls are now learning how to use computers for the first time. Their excitement is clear as they gain digital skills that will help them succeed in further education.
NISD has also formed girls’ groups in each village and runs various initiatives to build their confidence and shape their futures. We are deeply grateful for your continued support in empowering these young women and helping them realise their potential.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
