On the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, we will stand with families like Aondo's and Sadiya's, the farmers and herdsmen in Benue State, Nigeria, whose lives were torn apart by recurring conflict. This project will bring both sides together through dialogue, healing, and shared solutions, helping communities choose peace, protect livelihoods, and rebuild trust for a safer future.
In Benue State, clashes between farmers and herdsmen have led to loss of lives, displacement, and destroyed farms and cattle. Competition over land and water, misinformation, and weak mediation fuel cycles of violence. Women and children suffer most, facing hunger, trauma, and insecurity. Without intervention, peaceful coexistence remains fragile.
We will promote peace through inclusive dialogue between farmers and herders, community mediation, trauma healing, and early warning systems. By engaging traditional leaders, youth, and women, we help communities agree on shared resource use, resolve disputes peacefully, and restore trust, turning conflict into cooperation.
Our long-term goal is peaceful and resilient communities in Benue where farmers and herders coexist safely and productively. We aim to strengthen local peace structures, reduce violence, protect livelihoods, and ensure future generations grow up with dialogue, not conflict, as the norm.
