Even though winter is warming into spring for most of us in the northern hemisphere, we can't help but be excited for the next one as it means we will be back in Peru planting fruit trees!
Currently, our trees are in the nursery, being cared for by our local nursery manager Pedro who - having grown up in Loreto - specializes in growing region-specific and native trees.
He propagates for us a wide variety of trees, selected to meet our recipients' needs and interests, with each one holding nutritional, economic, environmental, and cultural value. Varieties in the nursery now include coconut, aguaje, acai, limon, copaiba, and sandre de grado - among others.
Once the trees are ready to be planted, we will join our local partners in Iquitos and head up the river to the participating villages to plant and distribute the trees with families and small farmers.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for the trip and continue growing the trees!
