Community-led reforestation in Morazan

Community reforestation at La Milpa in July 2025

Dear friends,

For the third year in a row, we are proud to support communities in Honduras through reforestation, orchard planting and tree distributions. Our work with our partners at ERIC, Radio Progreso, and SHARE helps families and farmers increase food security, nutrition, and income through locally-led, sustainable agroforestry projects.

We’d like to share one example of the incredible local-led action happening in the communities we partner with.

In the village of Morazán, the community-led reforestation project La Milpa Mojiman is creating a thriving model of sustainability. Corn and yucca grow alongside a canopy of citrus, bananas, and native trees, forming a forest garden that nourishes both people and the land. Through our support, La Milpa has expanded to include mango, guanábana, avocado, coconut, lemon, orange, and pepper trees. Enrique Rodriguez, who leads the project, told our team:

“There are no institutions like you who come and donate. It is excellent because the people request, enjoy, and will take care of these trees, and now families will have a diversity of fruits growing on their own lands.”

This year, we also visited orchards planted in previous years to see the remarkable growth and the first signs of harvests. Milpa Mojiman shows how community-led forestry and agroforestry can improve diets, create income opportunities, and support sustainable land management — all while strengthening local knowledge and stewardship.

Your support makes this work possible. Every donation helps plant more trees, fund knowledge-sharing workshops, and grow these community-driven orchards across Honduras.

To a bountiful and beautiful future,

The FTPF Team
