Dear friends,
Following our annual regional commitments in Central America, we will be returning to Honduras to plant thousands of food-producing and native trees in 2026. This program is a vital part of our strategy to build climate resilience in one of the most vulnerable countries in the world.
The Crisis in Rural Honduras
Honduras currently ranks among the top three most climate-vulnerable nations globally. Rural communities are facing a triple threat of environmental degradation, extreme poverty, and chronic malnutrition. Recent data shows that approximately 18 percent of the population is facing high levels of acute food insecurity, with rural areas hit hardest by soil exhaustion and an expanding dry corridor.
This environmental decline directly impacts health. Approximately 1 in 5 children in rural Honduras suffer from chronic malnutrition (stunting) due to a lack of access to diverse, vitamin-rich foods. In this context, fruit trees are not just an environmental goal; they are a necessity.
Partnering with Front-line Champions
We believe that true sustainability is led by those on the ground. Our work is only possible through the dedication of our regional partners at SHARE and our local partners at ERIC (Equipo de Reflexión, Investigación y Comunicación). These organizations are environmental champions, working tirelessly to create sustainable communities in a landscape increasingly defined by erratic rainfall and droughts. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and local expertise.
Evaluating and Adapting
While this is a relatively new project, we are entering a critical phase of evaluation. We are currently assessing how the trees planted over the last two years are performing in the field.
This process is deeply collaborative. We are actively seeking local feedback to see which varieties are thriving and which trees families want based on their specific household needs. By listening to their successes and interests, we can ensure our future plantings provide the exact nutrition and economic support required.
How You Can Help
This project is growing beautifully, but we need your financial support to maintain this momentum. Your donations allow us to:
Please consider a gift today to help us expand our reach in Honduras. Every tree planted is a step toward a more stable, nourished, and resilient future for rural families.
With gratitude,
The FTPF Team
