At St. Benedict’s Grade School in Jinja, Uganda, we were overjoyed to find the kind of results that show just how magical fruit trees can be. Standing underneath the canopy of the orchard, with her students nearby, here’s how deputy headteacher Elizabeth Amedo described the results:
“The fruit trees from the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation’s project have provided nutrition for every single student and teacher in our school. The students appreciate the fruits so much that they line up, sometimes three times a week, to receive and share this fruit in groups, which also teaches them about charity and compassion for one another.”
We had goosebumps as the teachers and students here reminded us of exactly why we are so dedicated to our mission. Many thanks to Elizabeth for being such a great champion for her schoolyard orchard and to all the other schools and families who participate in Fruit Tree 101!
