Dear friends,
We recently returned from Uganda where we planted and distributed 30,000 fruit trees around the Busoga region.
This included several schools in which we planted large orchards to support healthy nutrition, educational opportunities, environmental benefits, and beautified campuses.
At an all-boys boarding school, we planted 500 trees with the environmental club so that students gain skills in arboriculture and agriculture - as well as eat fresh mangos with lunch!
At another, we planted 300 fruit trees at a primary school to transform the barren area into a cool, restful outdoor learning and recreation area that also provides tasty guavas, mangos, and jackfruit for students to eat.
At a community park, 275 teenage students planted 200 trees to transform the area into a community food forest. The students were dancing and singing before, after, and during the planting!
Planting fruit trees and schoolyard orchards brings so much joy to children - not only the days the trees go into the ground, but for decades as they grow up alongside the trees to eat their fruits, sit in their shade, and maybe even teach their own children the value of planting fruit trees.
To a fruitful future for all children,
The FTPF Team
