Guatemala Volcano Relief: Helping Children in Need

June 3, 2018 is a day that Guatemala will never forget. Fuego Volcano erupted with a series of volcanic explosions and pyroclastic flows; sending a cloud of burning gas, rocks, and boiling ash out over nearby communities. An untold amount of people lost their lives immediately. Many more experienced serious health challenges, including burns and breathing challenges.

One of our Diaper Drops in Guatemala, The Casa Jackson Hospital for Malnourished Children, was directly impacted. They immediately began taking in and treating burn victims, as well as housing children separated from their families.  Thanks to your generous support, our response was immediate. 

We were able to provide additional cloth diapers for use at Casa Jackson for inpatients, above what we provided earlier this year. We were also able to provide hundreds of "Handwash Kits", which consist of a complete supply of cloth diapers to last from birth to potty training. These diapers are also easily hand or machine washable. In total, 324 children now have diapers thanks to you. 

This experience was incredible, and I can't thank you enough for your generous support. Fuego Volcano was able to test our strength and response capacity, and we were able to stand up to the challenge. Our work now is focused on long term relief as we work alongside Casa Jackson to empower survivors of Fuego Volcano.
