When Financial Awareness Protects Families

Dear Supporters,

We would like to share a recent story that shows how awareness can truly protect lives and livelihoods.

In a rural tribal village of southern Rajasthan, a women’s Self-Help Group (a small community savings group where women save money together and support each other) was recently formed with 13 members. As part of Seva Mandir’s efforts, the group received Financial Digital Literacy training, where women learned how to safely use digital banking, protect personal information, and identify online fraud.

During the training, the facilitator explained in simple terms why important documents like Aadhaar, PAN card, and bank details should never be shared with unknown people.

For one member, Neema , this knowledge came just in time. Her brother-in-law had already lost 3,50,000 to an online scam after someone promised to double his money in three years. Soon after, the same person contacted Neema’s husband with a similar offer. Trusting the caller, he had already shared photos of his documents and was planning to invest.

When he told Neema, she immediately remembered the training. She explained that no genuine bank promises to double money so quickly and warned him that it was a scam. Acting quickly, he deleted the shared documents and stopped the transaction - preventing a major financial loss.

This small moment shows how the right knowledge can empower women not only to protect themselves but also their entire families.

We are also happy to share that Seva Mandir will be participating in GlobalGiving’s Little by Little Campaign from 17–20 March 2026. During this campaign, eligible donations up to $50 will be matched at 50%, while funds remain, allowing every contribution to go even further.

Thank you for standing with us and helping make such life-changing awareness possible.

With Gratitude,

Team Seva Mandir
