Dear Donors, Friends, Supporters,
Smiles Forever Program and operations are located in Cochabamba, Bolivia, with a population of 1.2 million of habitants. We only have one level 3 hospital and 3 units of intensive care with less than 70 beds equipped to face the pandemic. So basically the situation remains critical. The vaccines supplied by the state are insufficient and poorly scheduled. To receive a vaccine you have to wait a minimum of 6 hours in line and probably will not receive it. According to experts, at this rate, the Bolivian population will not be completely vaccinated till the end of 2023. We are concerned about the new strains of Covid - 19, which have mutated. Unfortunately these new strains go hand in hand with the second and third waves of Covid - 19 that are proving to be more lethal and are now affecting children under the age of 14.
So the best option for the population is still following all the biosecurity protocols based upon disinfection, hand washing and the usage of facemasks. Which represents an economic challenge for our beneficiaries since it is very difficult for them to comply with all these protocols due to the high cost of biosafety supplies. And at the same time this means that minor patients cannot be transferred to our dental facilities without all the biosecurity measures.
Therefore, to the best of our ability we continue to supply biosafety supplies so that our patients can be transferred safely to receive free and quality dental treatment. We do not want to put our dental staff or the other patients we treat at risk! Past closure of the clinic due to Covid 19 increased tooth extractions, dental caries, and dental pain for our children and adult patients. Please help us to fight this ongoing battle by supporting the purchase of biosecurity supplies.
Gratefully,
