Good news from Fundacion Todo Mejora!

By Sofia Barahona Mena | Development Director

"My mom has always told me that my school is my second home, and I should be able to feel comfortable there. If someone is bullying you or discriminating against you, that’s not possible. That’s why the work you do at Fundación Todo Mejora is so important—to educate and talk so people can get more information about these issues." – Ignacia, Trans Student

Dear Donor,

Thanks to your support, these past few months at Fundación Todo Mejora, we’ve been able to continue working with school communities, parents, and authorities to build safe spaces where LGBTQIA+ youth can thrive and be their best selves in loving and supportive environments.

In October, the School Support Program successfully concluded in the Biobío region

The innovative initiative by Fundación Todo Mejora and the Regional Government of Biobío came to a close at Liceo Juan Martínez de Rozas in Concepción, inspiring six schools to become safe and affirming spaces. With this, the foundation reaffirms its commitment to an inclusive education system free from discrimination for all children and youth.

Todo Mejora Awards 2024

In December, we celebrated 12 years of Fundación Todo mejora with the Todo Mejora Awards, an incredible evening of diversity, excitement, music, dance, and an amazing community coming together to support LGBTQIA+ kids and youth. Six categories were awarded to community members and allies: the Politics Award, Visibility Award, Civil Society Organization Award, Business World Award, People’s Choice Award, and the Academia Award.

We also honored Marcela Guevara, the mother of José Matías de la Fuente Guevara, who, despite her profound pain, has transformed her grief into action, becoming an inspiring example for other LGBTQIA+ families. In her speech, she shared:

"The work of actively and solidly building the physical and psychological self-image of any human being is a fundamental basis for developing self-identity and fostering a sense of unity and awareness of a real and possible self. For trans children, this process begins in early childhood, and it is up to us as a society to provide affirmative support. The word 'identity' cannot stand on its own; it requires collaboration and support throughout childhood and adolescence."

Your support makes this vital work possible. Every contribution helps ensure that LGBTQIA+ youth have the opportunity to feel safe, loved, and empowered in their schools, homes, and communities. Please consider making a gift today to Fundación Todo Mejora, and help us continue to create safe and affirming spaces for all children and youth.

Warm regards,

Sofía Barahona Mena
