Girls' Education in DRC: Act Now

By Ferdinand | COORDINATOR

1. Context and Rationale

In rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, access to education for girls remains deeply unequal. Between extreme poverty, long distances to schools, and persistent social barriers, many girls are forced to drop out at an early age.

The situation is alarming: a large share of the population lives below the poverty line, and the most vulnerable families cannot afford school-related expenses. In this context, girls are the most affected. They are more exposed to early marriage, unintended pregnancies, and gender-based violence, which severely compromises their future.

Faced with this reality, urgent action is needed to restore their fundamental right to education.

2. Project Overview

The project “Funding School Scholarships for Girls in DRC” aims to support young girls from disadvantaged communities in South Kivu by providing them with educational and vocational scholarships.

These scholarships will enable beneficiaries to access either higher education or professional training in fields such as:

  • management and accounting
  • technical trades (electricity, painting, decoration, etc.)

The goal is clear: to empower these young girls with the skills and knowledge needed to become independent and shape their own future.

3. Project Objectives

General Objective:
To improve access to education and vocational training for vulnerable girls in rural areas.

Specific Objectives:

  • Reduce school dropout rates among girls
  • Strengthen their professional skills
  • Promote economic independence
  • Contribute to the fight against poverty and gender inequality

4. Current Status

At this stage, the project is in its preparatory phase. The main ongoing activities include:

  • Identification of beneficiaries
  • Selection of qualified trainers
  • Establishment of local partnerships

The official launch of activities is scheduled for November 2025.

5. Budget and Funding

The total budget for the project is estimated at USD 8,000.

So far, no funds have been raised. However, through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are confident in our ability to reach this goal and mobilize the necessary resources.

6. Expected Impact

This project is expected to generate meaningful and lasting change:

  • Girls gaining access to education and vocational skills
  • Improved employability and economic opportunities
  • Reduced exposure to risks such as violence, exploitation, and early marriage
  • Better living conditions for beneficiaries and their families

Investing in a girl’s education means transforming an entire community.

7. Call for Support

Today, this project needs support to become a reality. Every contribution, no matter how small, represents a life-changing opportunity for a young girl.

We warmly call on all partners, donors, and supporters:
join us in this high-impact initiative.

Your support can help change a life forever.

8. Acknowledgements

We sincerely thank all individuals and organizations who have supported or will support this initiative. Your trust and solidarity are essential to making this project succeed.

Because of you, hope becomes possible.

Together, let’s give girls in the DRC the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
