March and April 2021 Update for the HAS Sanctuary

March and April 2021 have been extremely challenging due to the second wave of the pandemic unleashing its fury all over India and impacting our abilities in extending help to the many distress calls involving animals. Once again, the lockdown has imposed serious challenges for the street animals in getting leftover food from hotels and wayside shops. We have once again mobilized support from several quarters to cope with the situation and we hope donors such as yourselves will certainly have the animals in your hearts as we continue to fight the pandemic.

The most remarkable achievement for us during these two months has been in the area of life-saving rescues where some of the pets could be saved from the brink of death. We were also able to conduct a few incredible adoptions - including that of a totally blind rescue pet Raja. Raja now lives comfortably with a loving and compassionate family who dotes on him. Thanks to donors like yourself, we were able to give them the critical care and treatment at the time they needed it most and we are forever grateful.

Beautiful girl - aptly named Azhagi (Beauty in the local language of Tamil from the area of India that we are located), has come a long way from the fateful hit & run accident that fractured her hind limb. The open fracture, despite first-aid, did not start healing and she was in a lot of pain. After a few days of observation, we were left with no choice, but to remove her deformed and fractured limb surgically to alleviate the pain and save her life. What is truly heart-warming is to note Azhagi's unconditional love and trust despite all the agony she had been through. After having completed her surgery, she now enjoys walking joyously not even knowing that she is a tri-pawd!

The other remarkable adoptions that took place were that of a calm and quiet pet Uma and that of a young pup Pi - one of the seven orphans abandoned mercilessly in front of our shelter, both of whom are now happy at their forever homes with loving families. There are many rescues awaiting their forever homes and happy-go-lucky rescue pets - Summer and Poha just love to happily chill out at our centre. We are deeply indebted to your donations - big and small, that have made all this incredible work possible.

While your $50 donation covers the complete cost of food, treatment and care for one rescue animal for a whole month, your $100 donation covers the entire cost of an emergency special surgery or the treatment and care for a critically injured case.

With your generosity, we strive hard to protect the most vulnerable street animals of this city. Please continue to support us!

Gratefully,
