The dream of becoming a school head girl

By Memory Mundia | Impact Operations Manager

Faides is full of life and very ambitious; she believes that background cannot hinder one's dreams. She was born on 13th March 2004 in a community called Airport in Livingstone, Zambia; she lives with her mother and father.

Faides started primary school when she was eight years old at Mwandi Community School because her parents were not able to take her to a government or private school; during extra-curricular activities, volunteers from a particular organization would go to their school and have sports sessions, and it was at that time a specific volunteer felt the need to help sponsor her education by buying school requirements for her which gave her the reason to work extra hard.

Faides was an outstanding learner throughout primary school; she enjoyed being a team player, was in the top five in academic work, and was very good at netball. During this period, she was sure she would be a school head girl someday because of her leadership skills.

In 2021, Faides went to secondary school level -grade 10 at David Livingstone Secondary School, where she has continued to work extra hard; her grades and extra-curricular performance keep getting better. Her donor has continued to sponsor her education, which she believes has been her driving force to work hard so that she can change her family's financial situation shortly." The impact of being on sponsorship has made me realize that I can attain my goal to become a better person who will influence my environment by making an informed decision because I am well educated and have the knowledge; my background is not a barrier to me working hard or become successful' says Angela.

The dream of becoming a school head girl finally came to pass when she was in grade 11 in 2022, and she is so sure she has been one of the best head girls at her school because of her outstanding leadership skills.

Dreams do come true, says Faides, and she would like to urge a girl child out there coming from a rough background that you can be who you want to be by focusing and working hard toward your dream.
