Emergency treatment amid Covid 19

By Fauzia Aziz | Manager resource developement

8 years old, Gul is an only child and hails from Kuchlak town, near Quetta. Her father, Malik is a farmer working on daily wages at an apple farm.

At the  start  of  summer,  Gul started  feeling an itching sensation in  her right eye,  which lead to a small acne like growth. As time passed this growth increased rapidly thus hindering her vision and leading to watery eyes and pain.  Due  to  Covid-19  pandemic  lockdown,  no  facility was  available  in  their  town. Gul was confined to her room as the neighbourhood children and her own cousins used to tease her and call her names. Her parents were worried about her vision and consulted doctors but they were clueless as how to help Gul. A neighbour advised them to take her to Quetta, however due  to  lockdown  no  public  transport  was  available. Malik could not afford private transportation as there was a locust attack on the apple farm where he worked. Being a daily wage earner he had no means of income, yet he went to the owner of the farm and dicussed his daughter’s eye condition. The owner arranged transportation for them and advised him to go to LRBT Quetta hospital.

Finally they arrived at LRBT Quetta, Gul was throughly examined under safety protocol. The  doctors  diagnosed  her  with  Papilloma  in  her  right  eye  and  performed her  surgery while taking all precautions. Gul had a successful surgery and the family was relieved to see their daughter free from pain.
