Blindness and visual impairment in children not only affect their quality of life but also hinder their ability to access education, socialize, and build a promising future. In Pakistan, countless underprivileged children suffer due to the lack of affordable eye care. LRBT’s project, Giving Sight to 10,000 Blind Children in Pakistan, aims to address this issue by providing free-of-cost treatment to restore the vision of children and empower them to lead productive lives. LRBT’s work is vital to ensuring that children from remote, underserved communities can access state-of-the-art eye care facilities and empowers children to re-enter schools, engage with their peers, and participate in activities that shape their futures.

Bilal, a spirited 10-year-old, loved school and spending time with his younger sisters until a tragic accident left him partially blind. A wooden chip injured his left eye, causing severe pain and blurred vision. His father, a driver, could not afford the expensive Micro Incision Vitrectomy Surgery (MIVS) needed to save Bilal’s sight.

Desperate for help, Bilal’s family turned to LRBT’s Korangi hospital, where expert care and advanced imaging confirmed the urgency of surgery. Over the course of his treatment, Bilal underwent three meticulous operations performed by highly skilled surgeons. His recovery was challenging but transformative.

Today, Bilal has regained his vision and returned to school with a renewed passion for learning. Inspired by his experience, he dreams of becoming a doctor to help others with the same care he received. His mother’s heartfelt gratitude reflects the impact of LRBT’s work:
“Thank you, LRBT, for giving my son back his vision and his dreams. You have restored our hope and happiness.”

LRBT treats nearly 350,000 children every year, providing them with free eye care services. Over 5,300 complex surgeries are performed annually to restore vision in children suffering from conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal disorders. The restoration of vision enables children to rejoin schools, rekindle their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Bilal symbolizes the transformative work accomplished by LRBT, being its 57 millionth patient. Advanced surgical techniques, like MIVS, ensure the highest standards of care for even the most challenging cases.

By restoring vision, LRBT provides children with opportunities to build brighter futures. To achieve its vision of a Pakistan free from preventable blindness, LRBT strives to:

  • Expand outreach to rural and underserved areas.
  • Strengthen its network of 20 hospitals and 61 primary eye care clinics across Pakistan.
  • Increase awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment within communities.

LRBT’s work is made possible through the generous contributions of donors. To continue transforming lives, we invite you to join us in giving the gift of sight to the 26 million people in Pakistan who still need free eye care.
