At Christmas Women's Resource Center offered you the opportunity to support the women we work with through our 'Gifts that Keep Giving' initiative. We are so grateful that you chose to support our work, thank you.Through this initiaitive you supported us with one of the following gifts:
- A workshop for one woman
- A trained faciliator for one workshop
- Supplies for one class of workshop participants.
As the platform does not give us the ability to report on each gift level seprately we are delighted to share with you more about our work in covering all the gifts above.
In 2019 we had 91 people successfully complete our financial management workshop, 88 people successfully complete our Women’s Rights and Gender workshop and 65 people successfully complete our Women’s Health workshop and thanks to your support we are set to make even more progress in our workshops in 2020! Our workshops are just beginning for 2020 and we are delighted that you have supported women to attend, a facilitator to train and materials to make the workshop happen - these are all key elements in helping to empower women - thank you!
Here is a story of success from one of our women whose life has been changed by attending our workshops.
Mrs. Vanna*, said that before she participated in the WRC workshop “other people surrounding me, including my husband, looked down on me”. At home, her husband was mostly drunk and sometimes stole her money. They always had conflicts involving physical abuses. When she got upset and stressed, she also would push or slap her children and grandchildren. In 2016, she decided to divorce her husband. Then she did not know what to do, as a single mother and grandmother. Her neighbour told her about the WRC training programs that she herself had attended and encouraged Mrs. Vanna to join. She didn’t feel confident enough to join the training. Later, WRC staff surprisingly came to visit her and encouraged her to join the workshop. “Then I finally joined and after joining the program on Financial Literacy and Positive Parenting, I noticed some changes in my behavior. I stopped using violence towards my children and grandchildren and now I know how to save money and manage household budget properly”, she further expressed.
*Please note name and image have been changed to protect her identity.
Thank you for helping women like Mrs Vanna.
Warmly,
Gemma and the WRC team
