The Kasiisi Project provides sanitary pads and underwear to all menstruating girls in 5 schools. One way to reach more schools and to make the program more sustainable, is to teach others to make Reusable Menstrual Pads (RUMPS). RUMPS workshops have been held in schools for students and teachers, girls and boys, and plans are to bring this technology to all our schools.
In November, a group of 8 Village Health Teams (VHTs), 7 health workers, 14 parents, 3 teachers and 22 pupils adding up to 54 people attended a RUMPs training where pupils together with their teachers, and a VHT trained health workers, VHTs, patients and parents on how to make RUMPs.
Pupils started by explaining to the trainees the reasons why they are choosing to make and use RUMPs. They explained with support from KFSP health staff and their teachers the different materials needed and how to make RUMPs. Later after theoretical explanations and questions, trainees were grouped in five groups of pupils, health workers, parents and VHTs with all the necessary materials for hands-on training and explanations led by pupils. Each group made one RUMP through giving every trainee in the group the opportunity to participate. Trainees showed a lot of interest and appreciated the initiative taken by KFSP to train pupils and the entire community on how to make RUMPs. The Kasiisi Project is very excited and proud of the RUMPs project.
The Kasiisi Project wants to thank you all for your generosity in 2017 and wishes you the best in 2018!
