The Kasiisi Project Girls Support Program has worked diligently to build girl friendly latrines with washing facilities at 5 of the project primary schools. These latrines allow the girls the space and privacy to take care of feminine issues which used to keep the girls from attending school altogether.
Because of the success of the latrine project, the Kasiisi Project is now trying to expand girl specific latrine construction to all 14 schools associated with the Kasiisi Project, as well as maintain the latrines at the 5 core project schools. Just last month, an old latrine block at the Kasiisi Primary School Collapsed leaving just four cubicles and two washrooms for over 500 girls.
Adequate sanitation is profoundly an issue of dignity. Without proper sanitation, young girls miss school when they are menstruating, causing them to lag behind their male peers in the classroom.
The Kasiisi Project is committed to providing sanitary pads to young girls in primary school, as well as proper latrines. Research has shown that these two programs can keep girls in school and learning!
Attendence of girls continues to rise in Kasiis Project schools and we would like to THANK YOU for your continued support!
